Event Details

Canvas8 is delighted to host No Straight Lines, with world-renowned business consultant and Canvas8 Thought Leader Alan Moore.

We have reached a pivotal point in history. Traditional economic models and organisational structures are being questioned. Once great businesses are now struggling or extinct. Kodak vs Instagram; Zavvi vs Play.com; Blockbuster vs LOVEFiLM; Borders vs Amazon; Clintons vs Moonpig. The list is growing.

Many long-established enterprises are being forced to innovate and rethink the entire end-to-end process of how they get business done.

This poses what Alan describes as a "design challenge." Answering this is the excellent No Straight Lines – a framework for this complex, wired-up, socially networked world. It presents a new way of doing business – one that questions traditional assumptions of commercial practice and champions collaborative enterprise.

Alan argues that ‘no straight lines’ logic enables you to design and create better organisations, better businesses and a better society.

He will be joined by Faisel Rahmen, founder of the social lender Fair Finance, who will demonstrate how you can successfully apply ‘no straight lines’ thinking to financial services. Fair Finance is a social business that aims to reduce financial exclusion and exploitation amongst poor and low-income communities in the UK.

About the speakers

Alan Moore

Alan Moore is the founder of the innovation consultancy firm SMLXL and co-author of Communities Dominate Brands, in which he coined the phrase ‘engagement marketing’. The book showed how the new phenomenon of digitally connected communities was counterbalancing the power of brands, and business, as we once knew it. With his unique insight, Alan enables organisations and companies to overcome the challenges we now face.

In his most recent publication, No Straight Lines: Making Sense Of Our Non-Linear World, Alan goes even further and is already attracting comment from major business thinkers, leaders and academics.

He sits on the Board of Inspiration at the Dutch think tank Freedom Lab and acts as Head of Vision for the Grow Venture Community. He guest lectures at a number of business schools and is also a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.
